South Carolina Man Serving Death Sentences for 2 Separate Murders Executed

A South Carolina man who was serving two separate murder sentences was put to death on Friday, June 13. He was executed by lethal injection in what was the state's sixth execution in the last nine months.
Stephen Stanko was executed for shooting and killing a man in Horry County in 2005. He was also serving a death sentence for killing his girlfriend in her Georgetown County home hours earlier.
“I have lived for approximately 20,973 days, but I am judged solely for one,” Stanko said in his final statement, which was read by his lawyer.
“Once I am gone, I hope that Christina, Laura’s family, and Henry’s family can all forgive me. The execution may help them. Forgiveness will heal them.”
