Myrtle Beach City Council Approves New 30-Year Lease for Pelicans Baseball Team

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans aren't flying away anytime soon. On Tuesday, April 22, the city council approved a new 30-year lease for the team.
“It’ll come as no surprise to anyone who has seen me on TV that I’m a big fan of the Pelicans, and I’m excited that we were able to pass second reading today,” Myrtle Beach City Councilman Gregg Smith stated.
“We are thrilled to keep the Pelicans right here in Myrtle Beach,” Mayor Brenda Bethune stated. “This is about more than baseball. It’s about preserving Myrtle Beach family tradition, supporting local jobs, and ensuring our city continues to be a destination for families and baseball fans.”
A few notes on the new deal:
- This new lease ends 30 days after the 2055 baseball season
- 30-year lease; $750,000 annual rent for the first 10 years; $850,000 in years 11-20; $950,000 in years 21-30
